"Translation of Holmes's Stories" by DATE Hisayoshi (p59-63). Compare of several translations FINA, BLAC, ILLU in Japanese.

"Okamoto Seizo, son in law of Minakata Kumakusu, and Mystery" by NAKANISHI Hiroshi. Nakanishi is famous for study of MINAKATA Kumakusu, one of the most famous Japanese natural history scholar of Meiji era, and studied in London in his youth. There are no mention on Holmes by Minakata, but his son in law Okamoto mentioned Doyle here and there.

"The Identity of the Illustrious Client" by HIRAYAMA Yuichi(p71-83). First published in English in CANADIAN HOLMES. The Illustrious Client was not Prince of Wales, but his younger brother, Duke of Connaught.

"It is a half and 54 miles, Dr.Watson" by ENDO Takahiko (p85-96). It was not 53.5 miles, but 54.5, and it would be easy to get its solution with this figure.

"Holmes Card Game" by SUGIYAMA Toshio (p97-101).

"A Package" by ABE Sachiko (p102-105). A short parody. A small package arrive Baker street, when Holmes had already retired..

"One Day , Holmes and Watson" by Ichimura AKira (p106-107). Sherlockian cartoons.

Kansai(West) Branch's 156th meeting will be hedl on Feb 18 (Saturday) 13-17, in Toyonaka. Guest Speaker is Prof. NAKAJIMA Toshio, "Conan Doyle and Photographs."

Tokyo Branch's Feb meeting will be held on Feb 12 (Sunday) 13-17, at Taio-ku Shogai Gakusyu Center, in Asakusa, Tokyo. The speaker is MATSUI Kanako, "Snakes and Milk".

She has been a keen colector and scholar on films and TV programs on Sherlock Holmes. I have sent her several Japanese programs before, but it is sorry there are not so many good programs now.

The first translation of THE STARK MUNRO LETTERS after the WWII in Japanese, by TANAKA Kiyoshi, BSI. I did not know he translates a new book, and am surprised ti find it at a bookshop. Price is 2100 yen, harddover with dustjacket. The first translation was about 70 years ago.

The first articleis "A Study on a element of "dog" in Sherlock Holmes" by ARAI Mitsuko.(p1-4). It discusses why Conan Doyle gave Holmes dog-like aspects.

"Flims of KINDAICHI KOSUKE and Holmes two" by SATAKE Tsuyosi (p5-6). Kindaichi Kosuke is a famous detective character created by YOKOMIZO Seishi, about 50 years ago. Many films were created with Japanse film stars as KINDAICHI for these years. In this article, OKA Joji's film is mentioned, but no reference to Holmes here.

"Conan Doyle and Freemasonry" by KUBO Yoshihiro (p7-28). It writes on Doyle's career as a Freemason, and history of Freemasonry.

"Drugs in the Canon" by YOSHIDA Takeshi (p29-33). Introductive article on drugs.

"MUSG chronology on astronomy" by Kurita Kazumi (p35-39). From astronomical calcuration, 1880 August 11 would be the date of MUSG.

"To Baker Street" Poem and illustration by TANAKA Kiyoshi (p40-48).

"Vocabrary of the Canon" by SUGIYAMA Shigeru (p49-58). Discusses variety of vocabrary of the Canon.

This is THE WORLD OF HOLMES 2005 issue, published by Japan Sherlock Holmes Club. JSHC published once a year, such Sherlockian magazine for members. It includes articles, parodies, cartoons and illustrations... any kinds of Sherlockiana by members. Its cover illustration is by TANAKA Kiyoshi, BSI. You may know him, as he has many correspond friends all over the world.

This is a new Victorian London's photograph book. Its original was published in Vicotrian era, and now published in Japan again. Its original editor, George Henry Burch(?) is not known to me, but its new Japanse editor, Prof.DEGUCHI Yasuo is a famous scholar of Vicotiran English literature in Japan. It is in hardback and case. Price is a little less than 100 dollars, but is is worth to that high price. Recommended.

The 56th JSHC Convention

The 56th Japan Sherlock Holmes Club Convention will be held on March 18, 2006 in Tokyo, at Tiarakoto hall. It is not clear who will be speakers yet.
The 18th Kamakura Seminar is on March 19 in Kamakura, an old town about one hour from Tokyo. Speakers are NODA Ken-ichiro on "Mercedes and Ford", HIRAGA Saburo, and HIRABAYASHI Izumi on wines.

The 57th JSHC Convention will be on September 16 & 17 in Mitani Spa, near Nagoya.

I have been edited THE SHOSO-IN BULLETIN, an international Sherlockian magazine for 14 years. It is sorry I had no choice but stopped its publish, but I feel I need to supply Sherlockian acitvities and news in Japan to my friends in abroad. It is a new idea to make a such blog on Shelrockiana. I do not know blogs are popular in Sherlockian world, but it is my first try. If you have any idea or advice, please let me konw.

Any way, start is start.
I try what I can do. First, I try to show you information of Japanese books on Sherlockiana.
